5 Reasons Why You Need Prototype 2

Prototype 2 is only a few weeks away and for those of you who are fans of the series, you already know why you are going to pick the sequel up. For you folks who haven’t played the first Prototype or weren’t planning on picking it up though I wanted to show you some reasons why Prototype 2 deserves your attention.

#1: Sequel Tweaks

With every new series there are sure to be a few bugs and hiccups in the first game. Prototype had its fair share of problems, but with Prototype 2, Radical Entertainment has had time to go back and build upon the strong points of their first game and create an improved sequel. With Prototype 2 we get all the great features from the original, in addition to improved controls, skills, and a new dynamic story make this game a must-play.

#2: New Character

Prototype let you play as Alex Mercer, a man who wakes up in a genetic engineering facility and soon learns that he has gained special abilities like shapeshifting, superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, endurance, weaponry, and the ability to absorb people’s appearance and memories. In Prototype 2 though, you play as Sergeant James Heller, a man who blames the deaths of his family on Alex Mercer. Whereas in the first game you were searching for the cause of your mutation, in the sequel you are harnessing those abilities to seek revenge on the man responsible for your pain and loneliness. There’s nothing better than a revenge story so Prototype 2 is sure to be a smash hit.

#3: New Powers/Moves

Alex Mercer had a wide assortment of powers and moves at his disposal in Prototype and Heller is going to bring a lot more to the table. Heller can shapeshift and assume other people’s identities and memories, in addition to being able to rip weapons off of military vehicles, inject enemies with the Blacklight virus,  and use his strength to destroy enemies. Heller has improved strength, movement, invulnerability, and a special sonar sense which highlights the key features of an environment to make it easier for the player to find objectives. Heller also has tendrils which he can use to smash objects, dismember enemies, throw tanks, and grab targets.

#4: Dynamic Story

As stated earlier, this is a revenge story. Taking place 14 months after the original game, Heller has embraced the virus and needs it to be able to fight Alex. Heller doesn’t want to stop the virus, but instead plans on spreading it. This is quite a change from the first Prototype where the virus had to be stopped. Manhattan has been quarantined and renamed New York Zero. NYZ has been split up into three zones, each with its own affected level. Heller will interact with these zones in addition to Blackwatch, the organization responsible for the creation of the virus and the ones trying to get rid of the virus. Heller’s main adversary in Blackwatch is Colonel Rooks, the man who’s short temper is sure to make the story interesting. With Heller’s hands full with both Mercer and Blackwatch, Prototype 2’s story is going to be one epic ride. I can say with confidence that Heller is going to paint Manhattan red and stop at nothing to avenge his family’s death.

#5: Trailer

Alright, so this isn’t exactly a single reason, but 11 more. Enjoy this trailer from Radical Entertainment.

This is just a glimpse at what Prototype 2 will bring us later this month. To continue Alex Mercer and Sergeant James Heller’s story be sure to pick up Prototype 2 when it hits stores on April 24th, 2012 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, along a PC release July 24.  Prototype 2 is rated M for Mature.
