Yeah, I’d set sail on this. Wouldn’t you?

Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box is created by Alawar Entertainment for the Apple iPad.  The game retails for $6.99 on the Apple apps store.  Although the price seems steep, you will definitely be getting your money’s worth in this game.

We all know that vampires are all the rage in today’s popular media, but rest assured, there are no teenage girls, werewolves or sparkling pale boys in this game.

In Vampire Saga, you follow the story of 2 men, Tyler Ward and his grandfather Matthew Ward.  The adventure starts as Tyler is called by his grandfather to assist him at his house, however this is no ordinary house call as granddad Ward begins to tell Tyler about his horror filled past on a ship named Pandora. The game then begins to take shifts as to which character you are in control of, Matthew in the past and Tyler in the present.  As you progress through the game, Matthew and Tyler’s pasts cross paths which leads to a great climax.

Vampire Saga is a hidden object adventure game which requires you to play mini games where you search for hidden items that you need to progress through the story.  The gameplay is very forgiving with no time limits to complete the mini games and a clue button at the bottom that will help you out if you get stuck and can’t find the item your looking for, a feature I used quite often.  Sometimes the gameplay gets too repetitive, but in the end it’s very satisfying and fun to play.

From start to finish, Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box will take you about 6 hours to complete, but unfortunately once you beat it, there is no other option other than to start the game over again.  You will still get your money’s worth out of this game, but it would have been nice to see other game modes like time trials or a harder difficulty to add to the replay value.  The graphics are beautiful and they do the iPad justice, however the cut scenes are a little jumpy and the written text sometimes does not match the person who is speaking.  This can be a little distracting, but it doesn’t take away from the story or gameplay and that’s the important part.

Now where did I put that pen?

I had a great time playing and reviewing Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box for the iPad and I hope that Alawar Entertainment continues with the “saga” soon.  I fully recommend this game to any iPad owner who loves mystery and adventure games such as Myst.  The game has a great story with a surprising twist at the end that will leave you guessing where the series will go next.

A copy of Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box was provided to The Married Gamers for the purpose of evaluation and review.
