So I have to admit that I might have been a little harsh on my last Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Package #1 review. Activision has continued to make good on their promise to ensure that we have new content every month and I’m an even bigger fan now in our 2nd month of content. Continuing with the Modern Warfare 3 Content Season, Xbox 360 ELITE members were treated this week to another multiplayer map, “Overwatch”. Overwatch takes place on top of a New York City skyscraper currently under construction. Scaffolds and wooden planks offer dozens of pathways to take and provide great overlooks of hot areas on the battlefield. Be careful though because one wrong step and you will go falling to your death.

What is really appealing about this map is the little amount of cover that it offers. Overwatch is asymmetrical and multi-tiered, but all portions of the map are somewhat open. Strafing between what little cover you can find is essential. You can even jump from story to story to get a jump on your competition or to capture objective faster. One trick I learned quickly in order to get to the middle bridge was to jump off the top floor balconies, landing on the walking platform below. Be wary though because you will take some damage when you land, but this will give you a good jump on the competition if you are trying to capture a bridge objective. Overwatch is great for all weapon types, although snipers don’t have as many open areas to choose from. I found that shotguns and throwing knives are good for run and gun tactics. Portable radars are also a great tool to use on this map as they pick up a good amount of the multi-tiered pathways when placed correctly.

While playing Domination on this map, objective B is smack dab in the middle of the map offering several vantage points. Good luck capturing that one! The height of the skyscraper gives you a great view of the scenery and the surrounding war zone. The best part though, is that there isn’t a cloud in the sky, so shooting down helicopters and UAV’s is a snap. Overall, Overwatch plays well with any game type. Objectives are strategically placed to where I get stressed out while capturing objectives, flag running routes provide endless possibilities, and team deathmatch games are fast paced and thrilling.

Overwatch is currently out for ELITE premium members and will be available to the public as a bundle with Piazza and Liberation in the upcoming months. For those of you who are on the PS3 or PC you will have to be patient and look forward to receiving this map sometime within the next two months as well. Remember, you have to be a premium ELITE member in order to get these early and it’s not too late to sign up! We still have 7 months of content left!

A copy of this ELITE content package was provided to The Married Gamers for review.

Hardcore Xbox and occasional PC gamer. I love to play multiplayer and co-op games where strategy is key.
