Just Dance Ghostbusters

If it’s a Friday night and you’re looking for a fun game to kick back and enjoy with a few of your friends, Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2014 is the game for you. It has all the components to make for a great party game. It is not going to teach you all the moves that you need to head out to the clubs later on during the weekend, but you are sure to enjoy yourself when picking out the songs and dancing and singing along with your friends from the comfort of your own living room.

True, the Just Dance 2014 mechanics have not really changed much since coming to the Xbox 360 but that does not change the enjoyment of the game. The striking colors seen on every song remain the same and is one of the high points within the game. With 47 songs to choose from ranging from Ghostbuster, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, Village People and ABBA, the game easily appeals to many generations.

One change that has been made in this fifth iteration of Just Dance is that the players can now actually gain additional score from singing karaoke while dancing. The Kinect picks up the voices that are singing along with the song, lyrics show up on the screen while you are dancing, and this will add to the score that is accrued from the dance. While the Kinect on the Xbox 360 picks up voice fairly well, reportedly the Kinect 2 will do a much better job on the Xbox One. When Just Dance 2014 comes to the Xbox One, it will be interesting to see if differentiation between two voices (a touted feature) will make a difference in scoring.

Another change that comes with this game is the online World Stage mode. It is amazing to finally have a dance game that allows you to dance with other people through an online mode. Granted, you are not able to choose who you are playing with and you do not actually get to pick the songs you are going to dance to either. So when you enter into the World Stage mode, you are thrown into whatever song happens to be “playing” at that time and you just start dancing. You will then find out what your rank is out of those players at the end of the song. When time comes to pick the next song, two random songs are selected and the entire “group” votes on which of the two they would like to dance to. The highest percentage song is the one that is next on the rotation to dance to. Though you never know who you are really dancing with, some of those gamers will show up in your recently met players list.

The Just Sweat mode has not had any significant changes to it. If you are looking to get a great workout in and you are willing to actually do all the moves that the dancers on the screen are showing you to do, you will burn calories and get a workout. However, it is disappointing that within the game it is unknown how many calories you are actually burning. It is not one of the supported game in Kinect Playfit yet; hopefully that will change in the near future or with Xbox One support.

Overall, Just Dance 2014 is an extremely fun game that keeps right in line with the other Just Dance games, keeping you moving and shaking and getting your heart pumping, while putting a smile on your face. It is great to see the updates that Ubisoft has put into the game, which make it feel as if there is enough substantial change to keep it in the Xbox 360 rotation. It is a fun party game that can be pulled out from time to time.
