Release Round-Up for the Week of January 24

Written by on January 25, 2010 in

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Chri… hold on.  According to my calendar, we’re in the tail-end of January.  Based on this week’s high profile releases below, you’d think it was the holiday season all over again.  For us gamers, our cups runneth over, so be sure to take a big gulp.

For starters, Mass Effect 2 is the much anticipated sequel in the popular and critically acclaimed role-playing  franchise.  Whole human colonies are disappearing and the galaxy looks to larger-than-life hero, Shepard, to get to the bottom of it.  The game boasts consequences for the way you play Shepard that affect, not only your teammates, but the very ending of the story.  Mass Effect 2 launches on Tuesday, January 26 on the PC and Xbox 360.

From the creators of the SOCOM series, Zipper Interactive, MAG is an ambitious shooter that throws as much as 256 players into a single, persistent battle.  Standing for Massive Action Game, MAG is more than a free-for-all frag fest.  It sports a command and mission structure that gathers smaller groups of players to achieve separate goals which, in the end, serve their team’s standing in the whole battle.  The game will be available on Tuesday, January 26 on the PlayStation 3.

Fighting game fans easily recognize Capcom’s crossover games such as Marvel vs. Capcom and SNK vs. Capcom.  This time around, they have partnered with the animation studio Tatsunoko Production to give us Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.  You’ll be able to pit characters from Capcom’s Street Fighter, MegaMan and even Dead Rising series against Tatsunoko Production’s Gatchaman(Battle of the Planets/G-Force) and Tekkaman in colorful, 2-D fighting game glory.   Get ready to rumble on Tuesday, January 26 on the Nintendo Wii.

Suda 51 brings back Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.  Back from a short hiatus from the United Assassins Association, Travis is looking to regain his number 1 spot while avenging the death of a friend.  The game hits store shelves on Tuesday, January 26 for the Nintendo Wii.
