As we move into the new year, our attention focuses on what’s new in gaming. 2012 brought us some great titles, but really, what has 2012 done for us lately?
While we will most certainly look to new AAA title games like Dead Space 3, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Devil May Cry, and, of course, GTA V and Bioshock: Infinite, often times we kind of forget about the Xbox Live Arcade (or PlayStation Network) games that has given us some big time hits over the last few years.

Most notably, of late, The Walking Dead episodic series from Telltale games, as well as other excellent releases over the last few years including Trials HD and Evolution, Limbo, Braid, Shadow Complex and countless other great titles from original titles to retro classics from generations past. So, beginning today, we will present to you, loyal readers, XBLA Weekly. This will be a weekly series featuring what’s new on XBLA, and will connect you to any and all reviews in the XBLA world of games.
One of the main “problems” is that it’s usually difficult to get a timely read on what’s coming out on the XBLA slate very far in advance. For example, the lineup for Summer of Arcade 2013 is likely not set already here in January. Because of a rigid vetting process for the games submitted for XBLA, delays are common and some companies barely know their release date before the general public in a lot of cases.

Going forward, The Married Gamers would like to bring a weekly feature to you, the fans of XBLA games. With previews, release dates, and, if applicable, reviews.
First up for 2013 is Retro City Rampage, released today on XBLA for 800 MS Points ($10). You take the role of a recently released convict who must tackle the inconvenience of “evil” do-gooders intent on stopping your city wide crime spree. A throw back to the 8-bit days, you jump on pedestrians to collect coins, gather weapons (up to 25 different types), and power-ups across 80 combined story missions and arcade challenges.

The “bad” good guys will stop at nothing to prevent your wave of crime in Theftropolis City. You’ll be able to challenge your friends and even post replays to show your dominance in evading the law and taking care of business while knocking out any citizens that get in your way.
We look forward to bringing you this new feature in the upcoming weeks and hope you’ll stop by an add some comments with impressions on the weekly games and this column, of course.
Happy Gaming!
