Producer Deep Silver finally announced today that the upcoming sequel Dead Island: Riptide will be releasing April 23, 2013. Placing the release date of the game at almost seven months away may constitute a Halloween scare for fans who don’t want to wait that long, but a few other details from the press release should be well received. For starters, Deep Silver is promising to deliver additional gameplay mechanics, more exotic locales and even an “additional character class,” though details on that new character still remain confidential. (It’s a safe assumption that it’s not a Necromancer though. That would be awkward…)

A Special Edition is set to include some exclusive weapon mods, a digital strategy map and an additional character skin. Both standard and Special Editions should also now be available to pre-order for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC at participating retailers. Take a look at the game’s official standard edition box art below, or head on over to www.deadisland.com to view some of the game’s previously released trailers.
