Review: Gamers Edge Eyewear

Gamers Edge

If you’ve ever gamed for longer than 2 hours you may notice that your eyes have begun to ache, or your vision has begun to blur. Other symptoms may include minor headaches, dizziness, dry eyes, back and neck pain, or even a severe headache or migraine. I know that after last year’s Extra Life gaming marathon that my eyes were a little red from having stared at a tv for so long. In an effort to help gamers who have suffered from these problems, and to help gamers play with more precision, Gamers Edge, a company that specializes in “High Performance Eyewear for Gamers” has stepped up to the plate to deliver some glasses that will aid you in your gaming needs.

Gamers Edge glasses come in several styles and colors, but for this review I tried out the silver aviator glasses. These glasses are made to sharpen images on your screen, provide protection from glare and light, prevent eye fatigue, improve your gaming endurance, and are UV safe. I have to say I was a little skeptical because I already wear glasses and weren’t sure how these would help my gaming, but the results were astounding.

To test out the glasses, I sat down and played a few hours of some FPS games. Normally I can play for 2 hours before my eyes start to ache, but while using the Gamers Edge glasses my eyes were relaxed, preventing me from feeling eye fatigue. In that time I felt like my skills in those games improved too and my K/D ratio was much better than normal. I’m sure these results are not typical, but I’m all for these glasses if my abilities stay this honed and precise. I also tried out some Arkham City to see if the glasses had any effect on the dark lights and shadows within the game. I found myself noticing enemies from longer distances away, not having to go into Detective mode as often, and the ability to see items and objects in the dark more clearly. I feel like I’ve missed out on some of my favorite games in my library and will need to go back to see what I’ve missed without the Gamers Edge glasses on.

The build of the glasses is sturdy and they feel like an actual pair of glasses. The lenses, or iEdge lenses, are tinted a yellow color which is noticeable, but the trade-off is superior visual precision. The images I saw on my screen were crisp and I felt like this improved my enjoyment of my games. The glasses fit snug, even over another pair of glasses, such as in my case. I even had my wife try them and the glasses seemed to fit fine on her as well.

While the glasses do sharpen the images on the screen and provide relief from eye strain, the uses of these glasses are somewhat limited. They would be great for people who suffer from eye fatigue, but for anyone else who feels fine after pulling an all-nighter, these glasses aren’t a good fit. The good news is that these glasses are affordable, so it’s not like you are throwing large amounts of money at something you will hardly ever use. Protecting your eyes is very important, and it was amazing how much of a difference the glasses made. Just imagine how much damage you’ve caused your eyes already gaming without protective lenses.

With each purchase from Gamers Edge you receive a pair of iEdge lens glasses, a carrying bag, and a lens cleaning cloth. Gamers Edge Eyewear retails at $39.99 and can be purchased at Vision Concepts International. If you are suffering from sore eyes or fatigue while you are gaming, then I recommend that you pick a pair of these glasses up. Their sturdy build and sleek design will have your opponents jealous and suffering from eye soreness while you relax your way to victory!

I suffer quite a bit from eye-strain and dry eyes while gaming and while working on the computer. I am VERY curious how these would aid me and wonder if I would get less migraine headaches as well……
