Head Enforcer On Xbox Live Resigns

Stephen-Toulouse

That’s right. Stepto has stepped down. Earlier today, Stephen Toulouse (a.k.a. Stepto), Director of Xbox LIVE Policy and Enforcement, announced that he is leaving Microsoft. The announcement on his personal blog bids a fond farewell to the colleagues he’s worked with in his eighteen year career at the software giant.

Five of those years was spent with Xbox Live, where he and his policy and enforcement team kept cheaters and other ne’er-do-wells away from us law abiding community members.  Infamous for laying down the ban hammer when needed, he has been open about these incidents relative to competing online services.

What I remember Stepto for is his connection to the community. An avid Tweeter and blogger, he has also been a regular on Major Nelson Radio, hosted by Larry Hryb, Xbox Live Director of Programming. He has also keynoted at events like the Penny Arcade Expo and RvBCanWest.  Being up front and center, he added a face and name to a role that competitors are content at leaving faceless and anonymous.

Although Xbox Live policy enforcement will continue uninterrupted, Stephen’s absence will be felt. We can only hope that his yet unnamed replacement can fill his shoes.  We wish Stephen the best of luck in whatever new adventures he takes on in the future.
